Peridot is the only gemstone that comes in one colour, only coming in shades of green, varying from pale yellow green to a deep olive. It was onced believed that the green peridot crystals found in volcanic ashes were the tears of thevolcano goddess, Pele.

Peridot is named after the French word peritot, meaning gold, because the mineral can vary towards this color. When set in gold, this gem was said to protect the wearer from nightmares.

As the birthstone for August, Peridot symbolises strength and it is thought to ward off evil spirits whilst aiding in the success of marriages and relationships. The gemstone is believed to encourage positive energy and suppress jealousy.

Peridot olivine is mined in Arkansas, Arizona on the San Carlos Reservation, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico at Kilbourne Hole, in the US; and in Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.

If you were born in June, you're lucky enough to have three birthstones to call your own! June is one of only three months (the others are August and December) that have three birthstones. Between Alexandrite, Moonstone and Pearl, people born in June are spoilt for choice.

Alexandrite

Many myths and legends describe alexandrite as a carrier of good luck, especially when it comes to love and finances. Alexandrite is well-known for its remarkable colour changes — green in sunlight and red in incandescent light.

Moonstone

Moonstone is a modern gemstone that is often gifted for 13 years of marriage and every succeeding year after that. Symbolising properity and passion, moonstone is said to balace the positive and negative sides of the mind.

Pearl

Pearls are the only gemstone to come from a living creature, with all others being created under the Earth's crust. Natural pearls are amongst the rarest jewels in the world, with approximately 99% of pearls believed to be cultivated. In addition to its classic beauty, pearls have long been considered to symbolise loyalty, purity and clarity, making this birthstone a perfect gift for a friend or relative.

We have a vast and beautiful range of pearl items to browse through. Click here to view our beautiful collection of pearl jewellery on our website.

April Birthstone Diamond

Our all-time favourite gemstone, diamonds are April’s birthstone for those lucky enough to have an April birthday.

Formed deep under the Earth’s crust billions of years ago, diamonds are amongst the world’s most sought after treasure. We’ve adored and adorned diamonds for centuries, believing they’re the ultimate gift and symbol of eternal love. The Ancient Romans believed Cupid's arrows were tipped with diamonds; this connection is possibly the earliest association people made between diamonds and romantic love!

The word “diamond” comes from the Greek word “adamas”, meaning invincible or indestructible. Due to the fact only a diamond can cut another diamond, the name seems very fitting.

A diamond is already ‘rather old’ and we do many pre-owned pieces of diamond jewellery, giving you amazing value for money. All our secondhand jewellery is cleaned and polished and we aim to make it look like new. Click here to browse our diamond collection!
